Personal Statement
I live in the woods in Michigan, an easy drive from Chicago and suburbs. My closeness to nature allows me to see patterns in intertwining branches of trees and patterns in tree bark, stones and shells on beaches. Old bones in prehistoric caves, eroded and weathered rock surfaces locally and in far away places - fascinate me by their similar and universal rhythm and design.
My emotions transform my experiences by focusing on artifacts of nature, prehistoric bones or rock formations close up or at a satellite distance. Maps and surfaces locate me in the here and now and help me answer the question of my place in the wider world.
What I feel, the interior is often under the surface or layered within the painting. What I show, the exterior reflects both outside and inside. Highlighted by my exploration of varied surfaces and mediums - watercolor, earth pigments, resin, and acrylic on paper, canvas, and workable transparencies, the work is often seen through layers, riveted or sewn together, inviting the viewer to experience the work’s movement and dimensions.
